EDUCATION:

SUNY Binghamton, MS in Biomedical Engineering GPA 3.87 December 2011

SUNY Geneseo, BS in Biophysics GPA 3.21 May 2009

RESEARCH:

• Designed research project and wrote protocol which was approved by the Institutional Review Board for clinical experiments to investigate the postural muscle tremors in the arm, aimed to provide a non-invasive quantitative diagnostic tool for Parkinson’s disease. My efforts resulted in the project being ready for clinical trials, 2010-2011.

• Worked on experimental design and troubleshooting for a PhD candidate’s dissertation research project investigating the electrical stimulation of mechanoreceptors on the plantar surface of the foot. Research goal was to non-invasively activate soleus pumping of the blood from the lower legs to the heart, reducing swelling in the lower legs and improving circulation. I was able to pinpoint several possible sources of error in the equipment and procedure, researched and suggested solutions to reduce errors, 2009.

• Independently searched for, selected, and tested program to analyze data images, and then led the analysis team for the Transmission Electron Microscopy data in order to observe the reversibility of fibrillogenesis. Fibrillogenesis of amyloid beta proteins is seen in the plaques in the brain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Research showed that altering the pH induced conformational changes in the proteins in the interfacial environment, and these results were published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2009.

• Performed Surface Plasmon Resonance Curve analysis of varying concentrations of Cytochrome-C and 20nm gold particles to investigate how gold particles affect the organization of the protein on the surface of the sensor, mimicking a simplified cell surface environment. Results suggested that increasing gold particle concentrations increase the organization in orientation of the protein on the gold surface of the sensor, and were presented on a poster during GREAT Day at SUNY Geneseo, 2008-09.

LABORATORY EXPERIENCE:

Clinical Lab experience setting up experiments, placing sensors on test subjects, and recording and analyzing data. College labs in Biology, Chemistry (General and Organic), and Physics (Analytical, Optics & Modern) used standard lab equipment (oscilloscope, signal generators, filters, etc.)

TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE:
