EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant August 2004 - Present
Department of Geological Sciences, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida
* Conducted field work and collected samples for research; visited more than ten mining operations and industrial laboratories, and became familiar with mining exploration and production
* Conducted experiments on phase identification and compositional analysis of rocks and aqueous samples, skilled at various techniques such as XRD, SEM/EDX, DSC-TGA, and Ion Chromatography
* Developed an isothermal immersion technique for determining the hydration heat and water sorption capacity of hydrous mineral, and created a model to evaluate the heat evolution at deposits
* Developed a thermodynamic model for the ion exchange in clay minerals, demonstrated the effect of fluid-clay interaction on the porosity of sedimentary rocks and the reservoir quality
* Performed a gravity survey over a campus ground for a geophysics project, and interpreted the regions that appear to have subsurface density anomalies
* Mapped the distribution of streams, sinkholes, and land use in the Santa Fe River Watershed District using ArcGIS, and evaluated the influence of streams and sinkholes on the nearby land development
* Built a connection between MATLAB and a software package Supcrt92, greatly increased the efficiency of data computation and management for calculating the thermodynamic properties of minerals and reactions
Teaching Assistant August 2006 - May 2009
Department of Geological Sciences, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida
* Taught three sections, more than forty students each semester
* Developed guidelines and improved the teaching materials for three courses
* Led class discussions and took students on field trips to the important geologic sites
