EXPERIENCE
•From 1986 to 1987–worked as Instrumentation/Electronics Technician at the Cobalt And acid plants of the Chambishi Zambia Consolidated Copper mines. Main products were Copper, cobalt and sulphuric acid. Accountabilities Included the following;
Installation and maintenance of all electronic systems on the plant including CCTV systems, metal detectors, Kent Radio communications systems, and all electronic equipment used in security systems by Mine Police at Chambishi mine.
Installation and maintenance of measurement systems for level,temperature,flow,density,PH ,Redox potentials and other systems used in the measurement of process variables and signal conditioning in the copper, cobalt and acid production processes. The common models on the plant were Foxboro, Yokogawa, Honeywell and Endress & Hauser Instruments.
Installation and maintenance of Final control elements like automatic valves, current to pressure converters, and motors with associated variable speed drives. Common models on the plant were Fisher Valves & Kent power cylinders.
Installation and maintenance of PLCs used in the production processes like the copper starting sheet preparation machine at the copper Tank house.
Maintenance of all electronic equipment on the plant including the rectifiers used for supplying DC Voltage to the cells in the Copper Tank House.
Lead Instrumentation Technician in the expansion of the Chambishi Copper tank house expansion project.
•From 1987 to 1996- Promoted to the position of senior Instructor-Instrumentation /Electronics and seconded to the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Instrumentation Training School. Accountabilities included the following;
Teaching the following components of Process Instrumentation to Trainee Instrumentation Technicians: Measurement Technology, Electricity, Electronics, Automatic Control, Chemical Composition, computer Control Systems and Final Control Elements.
Supervision of Junior Instrumentation Instructors in the School.
Acted as Instrumentation Head of Section for the school for 2 years up to the time of retrenchment in 1996.
•In 1996, I was retrenched from the Instrumentation training School. I joined Unilever East and Central Africa as Team Leader - Automation. Main products were personal and Home care products like edible oils,detergents,soaps,e.t.c Accountabilities included the following
Installation and maintenance of PLCs for the automated production equipment used in the production of home care and personal care products. The PLCs used were Omron, Honey well and Siemens.
Maintenance of all electronic equipment in the factory including VSDs ,clocking machines, power supplies e.t.c
Training and Supervision of instrumentation technicians in the factory.
Planning and budgeting for the Automation Section.
•In 2001, Unilever relocated to Zimbabwe and I became self-employed working for various food and beverage manufacturing companies as a part time Engineer and consultant.
•From 2003 to 2007, Chambishi Metals Limited an AVMIN Subsidiary employed me as Supervisor- Instrumentation at the High Pressure Leach Plant. Main Products were Copper, Cobalt and sulphuric Acid. Accountabilities included the following:
Involved hands on in the installation and maintenance of field instruments like transmitters and flow Control valves. Common models for measurement systems were Yokogawa and Endress & Hauser .The most commonly used valves were Mitech.
Installation and maintenance work on Allen Bradley and Honey well PLCs
Supervision of Instrumentation technicians on the plant running maintenance and repair programs on instrumentation systems, and standing by 24 hours a day for breakdowns beyond the scope of Instrumentation Technicians on shift.
•From July 2007 to date, working for Lafarge – Zambia as Instrumentation Team Leader. Main products are Clinker and Cement. Accountabilities include the following :
Lafarge Site Electrical/Instrumentation Team Leader in charge of all Electrical/Instrumentation works at Lafarge Cement Zambia during two years of construction.
Involved hands on in the installation and maintenance of both Electrical and Instrumentation systems. Overall team Leader for the whole of the Instrumentation Department involved in budgeting, procurement, stocking of critical spares, and Training of new hires in the instrumentation Department.
Managing usage and availability of spares using the Maximo and Lotus Notes CMMS systems.
