PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR Inc. , Lake Zurich, IL Mar 2007 - Present

System and Application Engineer

Responsible for system design and optimization of 2G and 3G receiver line up of RF transceivers.

§ Optimized the receiver lineup of first SAWLESS 2G+3G transceiver daughter card for best sensitivity and make 3GPP tests compliant.

§ Prepared Freescale specification requirement documents for front end and crystal devices. Worked with duplexer , SAW filter and crystal vendors to comply the performance of their components with our requirements.

§ Interfaced with customers to address their technical issues and also help them to troubleshoot and solve their problems.

§ Assisted the colleagues in laying out of transceiver daughter card boards to mitigate desense issues.

§ Completed detailed documents describing test methodology of testing 2G transceiver daughter cards.

§ Prepared training slides to train the customers on the functionality and performance of our transceiver chipsets.

§ Written labview program to test the functionality of transceiver front end components.

BADGER METER Inc. , Milwaukee ,WI Sep 2001 - Mar 2007

Senior RF Design Engineer

Responsible for design , development and measurement of RF transmitters , receivers and antennas for

various automatic fluid meter reading systems .

· Designed RF receivers and antennas to read fluid meters and transmit the data using Power line carrier

systems and WI-FI networks.

· Involved in the design of antennas for the receivers inside the electric meter and water meter pits.

· Designed , developed and tested the first drive-by and walk-by RF water meter reading system

( antenna , transmitter and receiver ) of the company.

· Instrumental in getting FCC and Canadian approval for RF transmitters and receivers .

· Developed repeater and dual receiver board to read both FSK and ASK transmitters simultaneously .

MOTOROLA, Libertyville, IL 1997 - 2001

RF Design and Development Engineer 1998 - 2001

Responsible for design, development, measurement and optimization of RF and microwave circuit design and antenna for various cellular phone products.

§ Designed an internal antenna for first low cost platform TA02 cellular phone product exceeding efficiency and bandwidth spelt out in specs with less parasitic effects on antenna performance.

§ Implemented the electrical design on low cost mechanical platform saving the overall fabrication cost of the antenna.

§ Completed the PCB layout for testing Motorola proprietary HIP7 IC process, resulting in successful production of both RF and baseband circuits.

§ Developed a low insertion loss matching circuit to match balanced surface acoustic filter output to the balanced input of low noise amplifier, resulting in better noise figure of the receiver and using less components on the board.

§ Designed the crystal reference oscillator for the dual band Modulus phone, optimizing the startup time and current drawn by the oscillator resulting in a 20% increase of battery life.

§ Designed a single transmitter lineup for dual band Modulus (GSM and DCS) cellular phone optimizing the power output, harmonics and stability, resulting an improved design margin for component and temperature variations.

§ Developed voltage controlled oscillator and loop filter for dual band modulus phone optimizing for Kv, lock time, noise and stability.

§ Created a biasing circuit for the RF switch of PCS modulus phone resulting in an improved transmitter harmonics, break down voltage and isolation between transmitter and receiver.

Product Support Engineer 1997 - 1998

Supported the manufacturing process issues, RF technical issues and cost reduction of the cellular phone products. Coordinated communication with worldwide manufacturing facilities of Motorola and developed test plans to check the functionality of the devices before incorporating them into production.

§ Improved the Cpk of the products by ameliorating the existing design, product quality and reliability.

§ Reduced the cost of the handset by bringing on board cheaper components resulting in a greater profit margin.

§ Performed well under emergency situations reducing down time reduction of factories thus saving money for the company.

SYED ABDUL MATEEN

MOTOROLA, Schaumburg, IL Apr, 1997 – Dec,1997

RF Test Engineer

Diagnosed and tested the RF performance of the iDEN phone. Debugged the hardware and software errors in the call processing mechanism, handoff and fading conditions.

BHABHA ATOMIC RESEARCH CENTER, Mumbai, India 1990 - 1996

Scientific Officer (Senior Engineer)

Assisted in commissioning the first RFQ accelerator of India, which was totally conceived, designed and fabricated in India.

§ Designed, fabricated and tested 30 kW of RF high power directional coupler, resulting in substantial foreign exchange saving for India.

§ Devised the measurement setup for measuring RF parameters viz. resonant frequency, Q value and shunt impedance of the radio frequency quadrapole accelerator.

§ Designed non-intercepting beam current monitor which can measure the beam current of the accelerator without disturbing the other experiments.
