Quality Test Device Designer- Engineering Intern

Supplier Quality, GE Energy, Appliance Park, Louisville, KY, June 2011 to May 2012

Assemble and further improve on the functionality of the PRAT (Product Reliability Acceptance Test) device prototype.

• Develop LabVIEW software program to control test sequences.

• Assemble and modify PCB boards by mounting surface-mount and through-hole components.

• Mount hardware to optimize functionality and wire management.

• Rewrite the documentation so that it is easier to understand and more relevant to the equipment.

• Install a system of electrical power management inside the PRAT tester.

Signal Officer

103rd Brigade Support Battalion, Harrodsburg, Kentucky, November 2006 to Present

Manage the architecture, installation, operation, and maintenance of all available means of voice and data communication. Provide training for the users and administrators of these systems. Conduct needs assessments, inventory, and audit comparisons. This assignment included one year as acting Company Commander and one year as acting Executive Officer. Complete network design, planning, and execution.

• Established the communications structure for a brand new battalion in 2008.

• Successfully experimented with WiFi in the field.

• Acted as the subject matter expert on (and assumed responsibility for) the Brigade WIN-T system, with a combined value of $5 million.

Joint Incident Site Communication Capability [JISCC] Team Leader

Emergency Management, November 2008 to Present

JISCC teams are small groups of (3-6) elite communications experts, who deploy during incidents (disasters, for example) and provide global communication within one hour, completely independent of any infrastructure. I lead these teams. Act as the liaison between government services and emergency responders in order to evaluate immediate electronic and communication needs. Report these needs assessment to authorities. Interface between government providers and emergency responders to provide necessary assets and solutions.

• Led a team during Kentucky’s ice storms which was the first to arrive in Western Kentucky to provide communications back to the capitol to request critical support.

• Expanded the JISCC team by directing three exercises to train 35 soldiers on JISCC equipment.

• Improved statewide interconnectivity by interfacing new and existing assets in order to explore the capabilities and limitations of all available communication systems.

• Assemble, organize, and maintain statewide JISCC volunteer call-up rosters.

Communication Specialist- Kentucky National Guard

198th Military Police Brigade, Louisville, Kentucky, September 2000 to January 2005

Performed field installation and troubleshooting to military communication devices. Also applied maintenance and diagnostic procedures outside of the field with the goal of always keeping the communication network operational. Submitted device functionality and maintenance reports. Completed one successful deployment and multiple exercises.

• Upheld reliable hardware by performing unit-level preventative maintenance checks and services on 38 unit-owned radios and 73 subordinate unit-owned radios as well as various GPS terminals, cryptographic items, and computer networking equipment.

• Provided mobile communication networks to the battalion tactical operation center on 9 field training exercises.

• Supported subordinate units by assisting them in the training, use, and maintenance of their communication systems.

• Developed a battery plan in order to provide planners with battery packing requirements for electronic equipment, based on the duration of the mission.

Quality Assurance Supervisor

Performed inspections in order to ensure that all CATV installations complied with regulations. Evaluated individual installers, based on the installers’ quality of work.

• Enforced government and company codes on 600 installs each month.
