EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, Dalhousie University and Cape Breton University, NS 2008 - 2010
• Researched on the coupling of Cape Breton Hydrological model with Bras d’Or Lakes ocean model, providing water resources decision making information for all 3 levels of governments
• Simulated circulation pattern in St. Margaret’s Bay, traced the larvae movements, and presented the findings at CMOS 2010 Conference
• Collected various data through ArcGIS for the modeling of the Cape Breton Watershed
SENIOR ENGINEER, South Florida Water Management District, West Palm Beach, FL 2007 - 2008
• Hydrology and hydraulic modeling and flow measurement through culverts, spillways, pump stations, open channels and rivers
• Simulated storm water treatment area (STA) – for wetland and watercourse restoration purpose
• Modeled Florida Bay coastal area water-related environment process, provided key data for the coastal management department
• Simulated an ogee dam spillway flow and a weir flow
• Carried out stream gauging and flow rating development at over 50 hydraulic structures, improved the district’s flow rating accuracy
• Maintained the district’s hydrological database to ensure it was up to date with both current data and improved rating equations
POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW, Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS 2002 - 2006
• Researched on NSERC project – free surface flow over spillways and open channel flows with 4 peer reviewed papers published
• Worked on the Atlantic Innovation Fund project – Ground water, oil and gas multiphase flow through porous media, accomplished a new method in oil and gas production computation
• Numerically mapped out thermal pollution in environment water body and presented the findings at an academic conference
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong KONG 1999 - 2002
• Storm water modeling, drainage and flood control planning, water distribution piping networks, sewage collection
• Computed typhoon-induced waves in Victoria Harbour, provided wave statistics to the Hong Kong Environment Department
• Carried out study on sedimentation in open channel with results published in Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, ASCE
• Researched an environmentally dispersion in water flow and published the results in professional journal papers
