ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Battery Pack Assembly System Simulation for General Motors, May.2012-Present
• Constructed various simulation models of Chevy Volt battery assembly line, including pure push model, pure pull model, and push-pull hybrid model, continuously improved the model based on GM’s new requirement and specifications
• Analyzed system performance under various control logics, such as system throughput, system robustness under high scraping rate and/or low machine reliability, minimum buffer size, sensitivity to non-value-added delays in the system
• Provided reliable analysis results and recommendations of which model performs best under different production conditions
• Constructed alternative simulation model and control logic of Hybrid Electrical Vehicle battery assembly line which can better accommodate fluctuated demand rate and low machine reliability; it could be an important candidate for real production
Combination and Key Lock Assembly line Design, Apr.2010-Jun.2010
• Designed and built the assembling line of Lego combination and key lock from scratch, applied time and motion study, and line balancing techniques while constructing the individual work cell using plastic bins and louvered rail hanging system
• Utilized error proofing tools, such as standardized work instructions and visual controls, to improve system performance
Table Fan Redesign for Simpler Manufacturing and Assembly Process, Jul.2009-Sep.2009
• Defined functions of individual parts and sub functional groups in a table fan, then generated alternative mechanisms to achieve similar functions and utilized the PUGH concept selection method to select the top ideas
• Combined the alternative mechanisms to create a new table fan design which significantly reduced the number of parts and complications of assembly and manufacturing process while maintaining the major and curtail functions of the product
WORK EXPERIENCE
Dana Holding Corporation Maumee, OH
Mechanical Engineering Co-op, Oct. 2009-Jul. 2011(three co-op sessions)
• Completed miscellaneous test evaluation of lubricants, and helped in testing and analyzing of an research projects on seal slinger design, the new design has better performance on leak prevention and crack proofing
• Assisted in performing various mechanical tests (fatigue, static, pull-off, load life) and environmental test on drive shaft
• Worked as an interpreter to help the company train a group of Chinese technicians and engineers in Lugoff, SC
• Completed grading, photographing, cleaning, sampling and documenting tested parts (cycled out or failed)
Chongqing Zhence Science and Technology Company Chongqing, China
Industrial Engineering Internship, Jan. 2010- Mar.2011
• Transferred the organizational structure from a hierarchical structure to a project-oriented flat structure in order to adjust a new R&D and production process, and defined the correspond responsibility of each new department
• Streamlined the company’s information flow, significantly improved the efficiency of information exchanging among and between each department; largely reduced the information loss and distortion
• Categorized the products into three major types according to its technological maturity, standardized the decision making process for each type of product from feasibility analysis to customer service
