SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT GAINESVILLE, FL SPRING 2010 AWARDED TOP FOUR SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT BY UF ALUMNI

GATOR WEATHER PORTABLE SOLAR POWER WEATHER STATION The goal of our senior design project was to assemble a portable solar powered weather station. The project was powered by a solar photovoltaic panel that tracks sunlight by utilizing two photo resistors. The sensors detect a difference in light and a motor moved the solar panel in the direction of the sun. The solar panel charges the lead acid battery and powers the weather station. The weather station sensors measures temperature, humidity, light intensity, wind speed, wind direction and rainfall. Weather sensor measurements are displayed on a LCD screen and wireless messages are transmitted to a remote location. ATMega microprocessors were used for A/D conversion, PWM for motor output, transmission of wireless serial data, and LCD display.
