My first three years at MPI were spent as a Research Associate learning the craft of Histology and obtaining Histotechnician (HT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Duties included:

• Active as a new recruit trainer to promote my peers quality of work.

• Active in the Process Improvement Group.

• Became fully trained in processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and microscopic quality review.

When I was promoted to Project Leader in 2008, I became part of the administrative team for the 50+ employees of the lab. In that role I became directly responsible for:

• Day-to-day operations, workflow, and technical oversight of the microtomy and staining areas in the GLP-compliant Histology lab.

• GLP-compliant development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, Authorized Forms, Study Specific Procedures, and Departmental Appendices.

• Effectively communicating time-off policies and requests, important job-function information, and items out of the scope of the standard workflow.

• Oversight of area-specific training, engaging in cross-departmental planning, and writing performance reviews.

• Kalamazoo Brewing Company, Warehouse Assistant, 11/91 to 6/05

During my time at Kalamazoo Brewing I was able to experience all facets of the brewing process. My last position within the company was that of the Warehouse Assistant. As I was involved in the very beginning and very end of the process, my responsibilities included:

• The receipt and disposition of raw materials.

• Assisting in workflow and inventory management.

• Collation and shipment of customer orders.

• Foster a team atmosphere.

• Promote smooth transitions of incomings and outgoings.

• Effectively communicate in order to enable the smooth operation of the middle parts of the process.

• Bronson Hospital, Pet Therapy Volunteer, 3/05 to present

In my role as a Pet Therapy volunteer I am responsible for:

• The promotion of patient well-being through the encouragement of interactions with a trained, certified therapy dog.

• Follow facility guidelines with regards to patient confidentiality and disinfection procedures.

• Follow Pet Therapy Program guidelines in order to maintain the privilege of brining in the therapy dog.
