LAB EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Molecular Cell Biology:
Performed experiments consisting of pH gradients, cell function depending on the pH of different fluids, and the procedure of electrophoresis. Also prepared DNA samples and used PCR and RFLP.
Genetics:
Performed experiments based on population genetics and mutations described by Gregor Mendel. Learned how to use ABO blood typing and how to determine genotypes from phenotypes using the punnett square. In addition, utilized VNTR and STR to look at base sequence repeats at several loci.
Organic Chemistry:
Performed a study of nomenclature, preparations, reactions, and reaction mechanisms of functional groups of aliphatic and aromatic compounds. Used gas chromatography, mass spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and color tests to identify compounds.
