Quality Assurance Engineer 1980 to 2009
Developed, managed and implemented strategic quality planning. Successfully implemented QC/QA procedures and practices to assure that the unit’s manufactured products conform to engineering requirements. Responsible for managing the overall quality along with ISO9001 certification
Used lean/Six Sigma tools to evaluate products and processes. Analyzed root causes to ensure proper corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
Traveled to China ITT plants several times to assist in setting up production cells as a part of the transition of products to ITT plants in China.. Provided training to Chinese operators to ensure that the intent of quality requirements for the products are understood and met and also qualified manufacturing processes. Accomplishment: These transition projects resulted in cost saving of $800K.
Provided QA support in qualification and implementation of new and redesigned products. Worked with cross-functional team members and completed all QA related tasks.
Accomplishment: Through these efforts 5 new products (2 - Electronic Low Water Cut-offs, 1 – Electronic Water Feeder, 1 – Electronic Zone Pump Controller and 1 - New Flow Switch) were successfully launched in a timely and cost effective manner. Sales have increased by 10% as a result.
Developed quality planning for manufacturing processes, purchased materials and final test equipment to utilize manpower resources effectively while maintaining optimum cost levels. Identified quality problems analyzed root causes and initiated corrective action programs.
Accomplishment: Reduced overall scrap by 2.5%
Traveled to several suppliers’ facilities to assess their production readiness to produce ITT products. Conducted audits of suppliers’ quality systems and implemented advanced supplier quality planning system.
Assisted in field returns analyses. Investigated customer complaints by evaluating returned products to find the root cause and issued appropriate reports. Initiated corrective and preventive actions for the discrepancies found during the analysis of field returns. Followed-up, as required to verify effectiveness of corrective and preventive action
Responsible for providing direction for continuous improvement projects. Used statistical techniques such as SPC, DOE, FMEA and Capability Studies to optimize the quality and productivity.
Supported agency inspections (UL, CSA, FM) and coordinated activities with engineering and marketing for correction of variation notices.
