Global Shares (GS) Project

Global Shares System was newly acquired by JPMorgan Chase and has to be created on its platform to be integrated into the Retail Portfolio system which is the Tax platform of JPMorgan Chase. Was a member of the Team tasked to build GS system on the RP system.

GS is a system that manages employee equity plans for startups, tech companies and enterprise brands. Its platform provides equity management and administration solutions to corporate clients and their employees. Taxes on company stock grants (like employee stock purchase plans (ESPPs), restricted stock units (RSUs), and stock options) are generally paid on the value of the stock when it's acquired or exercised, and on any capital gains when the stock is sold. At EOD, GS sends to RP the file of Tax Lots created from various Trades.

Retail Portfolio (RP)

RP among its other functions, is the tax platform of JPMC commonly known as Tax Lot. Tax Lot is a record of transactions and their tax implications (dates of purchase and sale, cost basis and sale price) involving a particular security. Every time shares of security are bought, an Open Lot is created to track the date and price of the purchased Security. When shares are sold, Tax Lots allow JPMC to automatically find the shares that keep investors taxes as low as possible. As part of the sale, Close Lot is created and removed from existing Positions. The current RP system will soon to be replaced by a new system, called Silver.

Responsibilities:

One of the GS Team members tasked to work on Global Shares Project to create new process to accommodate Global Shares in the Retail Portfolio System. Conducted system analysis, created technical design from high-level business requirement. Participated in systems planning and code reviews. Developed new programs, PROCs, JCLs, control cards) using COBOL, DB2/SQL. Conducted unit test, parallel test, User Acceptance Test (UAT) using VSAM files. Created various PROCedures to capture raw data from external feed to be formatted from the web to be processed by GS.

Currently the Silver process cannot be implemented just yet while Global Shares process is already ready. The Silver Team were in the process of parallel testing the existing RP and Silver process in Prod. Once Silver is considered clean and functional, GS will be incorporated into the Silver system (New RP). Agile methodology and Confluence were used in the development work.

Global Securities Services (GSS)

Fed ACAP Project (Automated Claims Adjustment Process) - GSP-DVS Process

is an industry mandated project for all Fed Reserve Banks to provide additional tracking capabilities (like adding new Federal Security Types and Securities Lending/Borrowing tracking to ACAP) and aligning more closely the timing of affecting claim adjustments to the time at which Principal & Interest (P&I) payments are made to Fedwire Securities Service participants. This project is a combined effort between GSP & DVS Systems since DVS is the messaging Interface for US Market Securities Transactions on the GSP Custody Platform to the Depository Trust Clearing Corp (DTCC).

GSP (Global Securities Processing) is a real time online multi-currency securities movement and controls system that tracks and reports securities positions including settled and unsettled trades as they are moved through BNY Mellon’s global sub-custodian network. It interfaces with BNY Mellon’s International Monetary Management System (IMMS) which reflects cash balances and currency positions as well as historical cash transactions and cash projections.

DVS (Depository Management System) is an application that serves as a Settlement Messaging Interface for US Market Securities Transactions on the GSP Custody Platform to the Depository Trust Clearing Corp (DTCC) for corporate assets; the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) Fedwire Securities Service for government securities; and for physical securities.

GSP and DVS are two (2) of the major systems that are greatly involved in this Project since both are passing data to each other via MQ and batch process before they send data out to external parties. Several Change Requests (CR) were created by Business to accomplish the goal of the Fed ACAP Project. Was assigned to work on Change Requests CR48, CR69 and enhancing all DVS programs impacted by the Fed ACAP Project.

Responsibilities in few of the Changed Requests (CR) components of the ACAP Project.

CR48 – participated in system planning. Created technical design from high-level business requirements. Changed and tested online CICS COBOL programs using VSAM files to add data entry functionality on REPO and LEND dates so that DVS will allow Operation User to setup independently two (2) dates (REPO-ACAP-DATE and LEND-ACAP-DATE) on S620 screen. These dates trigger key processing logic in DVS and impacts settlement of large volumes of trades. A date is set if REPO/LEND-ACAP-DATE is blank or future business date and User enters a new future business date. An error is flagged if the value in REPO/LEND-ACAP-DATE field is today or past business date and User tries to update their fields. The program then LINK’s or XCTL’s to another program to display information, update certain fields or print report depending on the TRAN-ID that the User enters. This change will enable GSP accounts to start using new transaction types (Borrows, Collateral) without impacting Fed Market Settlement as DVS introduced new tracking/reason codes to support Loans/Borrows transactions Conducted peer code review. Participated in upper-management overall project changes review. CR48 was implemented successfully to Prod on March 17, 2023.

CR69 – participated in systems planning. Created technical design from high-level business requirements. Changed several programs, copybooks, control cards and PROCs to accommodate changes in the POSition input file transmitted from external party, BDC (Brooker Dealer Clearing) transmitted to DVS. This change request is due to the new data requirement of TLM-ERU System (external downstream system) for additional amount fields coming from DVS. To accomplish this, BDC changed their input file record format from 3 records of 80 bytes length record to 4 records of 80 bytes length record. DVS process these POS input file records creating an enriched file for TLM-ERU with 12 new amount data fields. POS output files and corresponding copybooks were expanded due to the new requirement. Unit tested the changed job stream process using files received from BDC to ensure accuracy and completeness. Conducted functional & regression testing of changed COBOL programs. Coordinated with User to request BDC to send file for use in in unit/system test. Conducted peer code review. Participated in upper-management overall project changes review. CR69 was successfully implemented to production in April 2023.

Other DVS batch and online programs Impacted by Fed ACAP Project – since new borrow codes are introduced to the DVS system, regression and functional test were conducted to twelve (12) COBOL programs by creating test data based on program logic used as input records to produce the desired output files and/or reports. During batch unit testing PROCs, JCL, control cards and VSAM files were used. These reports can also be accessed online.

During online unit testing, some CICS programs just need file set up via INSYNC based on program logic to test the change. Some CICS programs need CICS TRAN-ID to be invoked to create the file needed, others, need MQ messages received to test the CICS program being changed. Coordinated with the User during UAT since she has to invoke a CICS Transaction to set up her own file that invokes another CICS Transaction to display the entered information by printing the report online to verify if the program change is correct. Conducted code review. These programs were successfully implemented to production in April 2023.

CANE Project – Custody Account Number Expansion Project

Account number of all DVS systems have been expanded from 6 to 8 digits as part of the mainframe modernization initiative. Was a member of the Team designated to accomplish this task. Was assigned with many COBOL and CICS programs to be changed for different systems. Unit tested each batch and online program by system. During batch unit testing PROCS, JCL, control cards and VSAM files were used to produce the desired outputs and/or reports.

During online unit testing one system used online DUS system (dedicated to a specific region) to receive data via MQ from external party (BDC) in real time used as input to process trade settlement transactions. If there are no input data coming from BDC, the input file is created manually based on program logic by using a CICS TRAN-ID (existing system) to invoke the program to write to the QUE to test the changed CICS program. Other systems just need to invoke CICS TRAN-ID after setting up the input file using INSYNC based on program logic to test the changed CICS program. The changed programs either LINKs or XCTLs to another program depending on the TRAN-ID entered by the User or being passed. Participated in peer code review. Supported the successful implementation of the project in production on Nov 2023.

EPLX Environment Project

Was one of the 5-Team members tasked to work on the installation of all jobs to set up the EPLX UAT environment as part of BNY Mellon’s modernization project to create several test environments which are assigned to different systems to be used for UAT (User Acceptance Testing) of which EPLX environment is one of them.
