Resume:

Dear Hiring Manager,

I have built my career in the manufacturing industry, consistently demonstrating a strong ability to manage both supervisors and manufacturing personnel. My leadership has ensured the efficient and effective execution of daily manufacturing activities, contributing to operational success and productivity.

Although I do not hold a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, I attended California State College, PA, and majored in Industrial Arts for six months before accepting a paid, state-sponsored apprenticeship with Matthews International, Marking Systems Division. This opportunity allowed me to pursue a four-year apprenticeship as a Journeyman Machinist, which I successfully completed, earning certification from the State of Pennsylvania. During my apprenticeship, I gained practical experience operating all conventional and CNC machinery commonly found in modern machine shops. My training also covered non-traditional manufacturing methods, including EDM, heat treating, injection and compression molding, and both 2D and 3D engraving.

Since completing my apprenticeship, I have accumulated experience working in and managing both design and manufacturing engineering groups. My engineering expertise was developed through direct experience, effectively earning my degree on the job. Additionally, I have over eight years of experience supervising twenty-five employees in an ISO 13485 Medical CNC Machine Shop at STERIS – Instrument Management Systems in Birmingham, Alabama.

I possess a deep understanding of quality management, including investigating quality issues, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. My expertise in Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) management has enabled me to maintain compliance with OSHA standards and deliver comprehensive safety training to employees.

My background in manufacturing engineering is robust. I have managed Manufacturing Engineering departments and have overseen the creation of engineering records in ERP systems. My responsibilities have included designing fixtures and tooling, developing plant layouts, and designing component parts and assemblies using AutoCAD 2D and 3D software. I have also created thousands of programs for CNC machinery and have experience selecting and justifying new CNC equipment. These skills have empowered me to lead continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives by leveraging the latest technologies.

I am proficient with a range of manufacturing software, systems, and asset management tools, including MS Office Suite, various ERP/SAP systems, Manager Plus, UltiPro, Compass, Kronos, Security, and SharePoint intranet. My responsibilities have also included managing preventive maintenance programs for shop machinery and overseeing Gage Calibration programs for shop inspection tools and instruments. By integrating these technologies, I have streamlined processes, improved data accuracy, and enhanced overall operational efficiency.

I believe my comprehensive background in engineering, strong technical skills, and proven leadership make me a strong candidate for the Machine Shop Manager position at your organization. I am eager to contribute to your organization's objectives and would welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications in greater detail.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Edward J. Moffitt
