I provide patient education regarding oral chemotherapy as well as IV chemotherapy, side effect management, drug interactions, supportive medication education and any oncology question the patient might have regarding their cancer or plan of treatment. I report adverse events, severe adverse events to the manufacturer. Along with cancer patients, I also work with rare disease patients helping them with side effects and general questions they might have. I have performed appeals for patients. I work as a liaison between the provider and patient. I participated in the first ‘Train the Trainer” program where I learned training skills for new employee orientation. I am the lead trainer on the blood team where I train new employees on policies and procedures.
Previous to working on the Blood Team as a Clinical Case Educator, I provided telephonic nursing for Celgene REMS program as a Patient Care Coordinator. My main role is to educate patients on (oral chemotherapy) toxicities and precautions of chemotherapeutic agents used in various types of cancers. I also educated patients about IV chemotherapy regimens, side effects, toxicities, and any other questions they have regarding supportive medications they are receiving. I was responsible for notifying the manufacturer of any adverse drug events that occur. I assisted the clinical trials nurses in educating, reporting adverse events for Revlimid, Thalomid, and Pomalyst patients.
