The Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs (BPP) office serves as the first point of contact and
HR for all biomedical postdoctoral scholars. The BPP community encompasses 800+
biomedical postdoctoral appointees in the School of Medicine, School of Veterinary
Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Nursing, and Department of Biology; and
300+ in affiliate institutions. Key responsibilities include:
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Primary contact for faculty, biomedical postdoctoral scholars, and staff on all
program policies and procedures. Initiate and participate in the development of
postdoc related policies and procedures including developing collaborative
relationships with key university offices. Consult with external audiences for
benchmarking and networking purposes.
Developing policies related to conflict resolution and immigration. Serve as the
primary school contact for postdoc crises and conflict resolution.
Point of contact for postdoc immigration and visa issues. Point of contact of
postdocs benefits in collaboration with the health care provider.
Interfacing with postdocs, faculty, leadership, external affiliates, and university
administrators regarding postdoctoral issues including the appointment process and
policy interpretation. Facilitate the recruitment of postdocs.
DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Supervise and guide the collection, maintenance, and statistical analysis regarding
data requests including funding sources, longitudinal tracking using Academic
analytics, and Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates in Science and
Engineering (GSS) report.
Develop and troubleshoot issues with BPP’s in-house electronic appointment
System.
Develop and maintain trainee data and text boilerplates for training grant and
fellowship proposals.
PROGRAMMING
Develop relevant program initiatives including Career Workshops, Wellness
Workshops, Research Success Skills, Biomedical Career Fair, Bioethics Training,
New Postdoc Orientations, and Foreign National Seminars.
Supervise the Academic Program Coordinator in the collection and analysis of
evaluation materials including events evaluation, exit surveys, and overall program

Successfully established a new professional graduate degree that addresses the
needs of non-traditional students and recent graduates. In the period of 2014 to
2021, seventy students (65% international, 20% part-time) were enrolled in the
program. The overall retention and graduation rate was 90%. Seven collaborative
agreements were formalized with industries and non-profit organizations.
Responsible for the program’s maintenance, operations, enhancement, and growth.
Worked collaboratively with staff and the leadership to meet enrollment targets and
develop retention, completion and placement goals and activities.
Coordinated all aspects of program operations strategic planning and scheduling
events; arranging for access to university services and facilities for students; and
developing and implementing systems to communicate program information to
prospective and current students. Developed and delivered New Student
Orientation, recruitment events, Seminar Series, workshops, co-curricular activities,
and other events as needed.
Devised and executed recruitment and marketing plans by identifying target
schools, establishing relationships with academic institutions, visiting schools,
attending recruitment fairs, and communicating with prospective students about
the program and application process.
Collaborated with two colleges to develop and coordinate logistics to support strategic
recruitment, prospect management activities, and admissions for the MCS program.
Developed and implemented learning outcomes assessment plans, completed
cohort studies, drafted annual assessment reports, and used results to inform
curricular decisions and admission metrics. Made assessment-based
recommendations about course offerings, new courses, and admissions. Tracked
students’ progress to assure retention, academic achievement, and progress toward
Degree.
Oversaw and coordinated the capstone and thesis process assisting students in
identifying research projects, guided them with the proposal preparation, and
served on the thesis committees of all students.

better prepare them for the transition into advanced degrees and careers in STEM.
Developed bilingual research-based inquiry-based education and outreach materials
including hands-on activities in chemistry, physics, biology, nanotechnology, optics,

Guided students and teachers in the preparation of interdisciplinary educational
modules that brought nano and environmental sciences concepts together, using
various pedagogical approaches based on K-12 science standards resulting in a
lending library of more than twenty modules.
Delivered a teacher and student training program in hands-on inquiry and research-
based curriculum development at the K-16+ levels. Over fifty graduate and
undergraduate students and thirty-six teachers were trained.
Devised evaluation and assessment plans to measure the effectiveness of student
support programs. Longitudinal tracking revealed a 90% retention rate in advanced
degrees and 85% graduation rate for NSF-PR-LSAMP, NASA-CANM, and NSF-
PR-AGEP.
Mentored young faculty members in the development of educational components
to research grants resulting in a 60% approval rate for federal funding. Successful
faculty members were guided in the development of innovative educational
programs at the K-16+ levels creating a network of technically diverse programs
impacting fifty students each year and achieving an overall 90% retention rate in
STEM fields.
Identified sources of funding and co-authored grants. Secured funding from federal
agencies resulting in twenty-three grants (60% approval rate) totaling $40 M in
federal funds.
Established a wide network of collaborators that include academia, private, non-
profit, and informal science sectors.
