Summary

I have gained a vast amount of knowledge as an Assistant Principal and educator and I am ready to explore other career opportunities. I am currently employed as an Associate Professor at Odessa Community College in Odessa,Texas. Over the past 7 years as an assistant principal, I have learned to effectively manage staff and students and maintain a safe and orderly campus environment for around 80 staff members and 600 students at the elementary level and over 800 students and 80 staff at the secondary level. I was employed at Lamesa ISD for 10 years. I have been employed by Midland ISD for the last two years as an Assistant Principal of a junior high with over 800 students. Before becoming an Assistant Principal, I was a highly energetic 8th Grade US History teacher that specialized in managing students and maximizing learning opportunities in diverse classroom settings with active engagement. And, before that, I taught first grade for 3 years. I obtained my master’s degree in Principalship in December 2013, and graduated with my doctorate (Ed.D) in Instructional Leadership in September 2019. My passion and career ambition is to instruct and educate future educators and leaders.

Child Development Pathways

In my current role as a professor at Odessa College, I teach dual credit Child Development courses across all modalities—in-person, online, and synchronous environments—serving high school students, traditional college students, and non-traditional adult learners. This work has strengthened my ability to design responsive, accessible curriculum that meets students where they are while maintaining rigor and alignment with workforce expectations. I have extensive experience developing curriculum, aligning programs with standards, and integrating real-world application into coursework to ensure students are prepared for immediate entry into the early childhood workforce or continued academic advancement.

While completing my undergraduate degree, I owned and operated a licensed in-home daycare for six years, serving children from infancy through school age. This experience provided me with firsthand knowledge of child development, family engagement, and the operational demands of high-quality early learning environments. Today, I continue to stay actively engaged in the field by volunteering two days per week in a Texas Rising Star-certified childcare center, where I support instruction, observe best practices, and remain current in standards related to licensing, quality rating systems, and developmentally appropriate practice.
