Aquired Skills
Government Contractor
As a government contractor at the Vermont Service Center, I had several duties that centered around clerical work. The responsibilities of this position included organizing immigration applications, setting up immigration application files so that the data entry group could key the data into a data base, and also did some incoming mail handling operations.
Administrator Specialist
As a member of a homeless/transitional shelter office team, I am responsible for being the “front desk” for the rest of the office. This includes answering phones, clerical work, greeting people who are coming into the office, and the shelter director’s personal assistant. On top of this, I am also doing Microsoft exel programming, working to streamline, and making more efficient use of paper forms, creating new spreadsheets to replace them.
Shelter Staff
As a member of a homeless/transitional shelter support team, I have acquired the skills to provide support to the residents of the shelter, to help maintain order in the shelter and to help the residents achieve success in transitioning to housing.
Maintenance Technician
As a Maintenance technician, I am responsible for the repair, preventive maintenance, and calibration of automatic semiconductor test equipment, using troubleshooting skills to pinpoint and then resolve electronic and mechanical problems.
Applications Engineer
As an applications engineer, in most cases working under the sales arm of the company, I was responsible to get the customer proficient at using test equipment for testing complex semiconductor devices (i.e.: microprocessor and memory devices), to make sure that all the technical specifications of the product are met. This process involved working with the customer to develop complex software test programs, using C++ and Visual Basic (Microsoft) software languages. In order to accomplish this testing, hardware integration was also needed to connect the customer’s product to the test equipment. This hardware integration was usually spearheaded by the applications engineer also.
Technical Sales
Part of my duties as an applications engineer was to make technical presentations to potential customers. These presentations included equipment demonstrations, usually using the customer’s product, to test that the product met customer specifications.
Training
Part of my duties in this position was to train the customers. This was usually one or two weeks of formal training in a classroom setting, using computer workstations or PC’s. The training was centered on classroom presentations and labs, developing software test programs for the lab sections.
Software
Proficient with using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, writing programs in Visual Basic, and C++. Experienced at managing small network.
Hardware
Proficient using different test equipment to troubleshoot hardware issues. The equipment I used most frequently were the oscilloscope, signal generators, and digital multimeters.
Group Leader
As a group leader I had to ensure that the overall group goals were being met, and provide a forum for open discussions with the team to make sure the scope of our projects were clearly defined. I did this by holding weekly meetings with the group.
