HISTORY

The University opened in 1970 as Sangamon State University and became University of Illinois Springfield in July 1995. ACCREDITATION

The University of Illinois Springfield is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a regional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, some programs are individually accredited by their respective associations. COURSE NOTATIONS ON TRANSCRIPT

Notations are included with certain courses to indicate special types of earned credit. These notations include the following: AP (Advanced Placement), CLEP (College Level Examination Program), CPL

(Credit for Prior Learning), IB (International Baccalaureate), and PR

(Proficiency).

COURSE NUMBERING/PLACEMENT ON TRANSCRIPT

Prior to Fall 1973, courses were identified by title only. An asterisk was used to designate those courses for which graduate credit was awarded. Since Fall 1973, courses have been numbered as follows: 000-399 Undergraduate level

400-499 Undergraduate or Graduate level depending

on the student level*

500-599 Graduate level*

600-699 Doctoral level*

* Depending on the student level at the time of enrollment, these courses may appear on the Undergraduate, Masters, or Doctoral portion of the student’s transcript.

CREDIT HOURS

Prior to Fall 1973, credit hours were expressed in quarter hours. Since Fall 1973, semester hours have been used.

RELEASE OF INFORMATION

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 prohibits release of this record or its contents to any third party without the written consent of the student.

TRANSFER CREDIT

Students enrolled prior to Fall 2004 have only their accepted transfer hours displayed without a transfer GPA. Students enrolled for the first time in Fall 2004 or thereafter have all completed transfer hours displayed in addition to a transfer GPA (calculated based upon hours attempted at all other institutions attended).

GRADE POINT AVERAGE

Each student will have a Grade Point Average (GPA) for each level of attendance (possible levels: Undergraduate, Masters, Doctoral). Within those levels, a student will have an institutional, transfer, and overall GPA. Institutional GPA is calculated based upon hours attempted at UIS only, transfer GPA is calculated based upon hours attempted at all other institutions attended, and overall GPA reflects a cumulative total of both institutional and transfer GPA.

AA = Excellent

BB = Good

CC = Passing**

SS = Satisfactory (credit only course)
