System upgrades and migrations entailed working with end users from order entry people up to managers and VP along with warehousemen to supervisors over multiple warehouses. Technical consulting and scheduling was mandatory with resources like Hewlett Packard and EMC technical and business services. Testing in an offline environment to prove all the programs and supporting utilities worked like the original environment and then alter or worked with the operating system and have all parties test their needed operations. I performed this process in coordinating with internal and external company personnel and documenting all findings and sharing with program developers and the VP of IT on 11 events over the course of 22 years. References from the now retired VP, but who was present during those years, can be provided if requested. Test and Production Environment Schedule
Updates are deployed in a staggered manner to allow testing before production:
• Test environments (pods): updated on the first Friday of the release month
• Production environments: updated 2 weeks later, on the third Friday of the release month Quarterly updates include:
• Fixes – technical or legislative corrections, shipped enabled
• Minor changes – small enhancements or validations, shipped enabled
• New functionality – features that materially impact users, shipped disabled and require opt- in; some may have an opt-in expiration date
Planning Considerations
• Allocate sufficient time to review & validate updates in test environments before production deployment
• Avoid delaying updates to the last available days, as slots may be fully booked
• For retail or high-season periods, the update may require coordination with Oracle Support to adjust timing
By following this schedule, organizations can ensure smooth adoption of new features, maintain syst em stability, and comply with Oracle’s mandatory update policy. Quarterly updates are how Oracle Fusion Applications deliver new features and functionality to your environments. They also include fixes for issues that have occurred since the last update. Quarterly updates are a type of scheduled maintenance and categorized, when required, as planned downtime
(vs unplanned downtime) of a customer environment. Started working with start up company My-CEO as System Administrator & Application Specialist April 21 2025 – Current
