Summary

I have over a decade of teaching experience across various grade levels and subjects. I have taught middle school & elementary English Language Arts (ELA), as well as elementary math, science, and Social Studies, with a focus on project-based learning, hands-on activities, and innovative teaching strategies. Before entering education, I also worked in healthcare across various departments and roles. For 23 years, most recently for BJC Homecare Services in Home Medical Equipment. Experience

Personal Tutor (2016-Present), Varsity Tutors, St. Louis, MO, & Privately. Both In-person & Virtually: I have invested countless hours helping more than 100 students achieve their academic goals, from pre-K through doctoral studies. I have helped them for short periods to prepare for an exam or the SSAT, or for longer periods in ELA, Writing, Math, Science, & Humanities classes. Over time, I have found that tutoring can be more personally rewarding. You see the effects; knowing they are due to how you taught them and the relationship you have built with them helps the tutor understand what the student needs most to improve and maintain that growth as they progress through longer periods of their school years.

Fifth-grade Classroom Teacher (2024-2026) Lee Hamilton Intermediate, Ferguson, MO: I taught ELA, math, science, social studies, 95% Phonics, Spring Math, and the PALS Reading program. I saw incredible gains in both reading comprehension and oral reading fluency, with a class growth of 17% from September 2024 to February 2025, when the school-wide goal was only 10%.

Kindergarten Co-Teacher (March-May,2024) Columbia Elementary, St. Louis, MO: Led small groups, created class materials for math and reading, and collaborated on classroom management for 33 students. (I wanted to know if ECE was for me. NO, it wasn’t.)

Fourth-grade Classroom Teacher (August 2023-March 2024) Humboldt Academy of Higher Learning, St. Louis, MO: Taught ELA, math, science, and social studies, achieving significant student growth in STAR Reading and Math tests, and engaging students with interactive science and social studies lessons.

Classroom Teacher (2022-2023) Barack Obama School, St. Louis, MO: I taught ELA to seventh graders and guided students in creating e-books, improving writing skills, and reading fluency. I led an eighth-grade study hall focused on proofreading and executive functioning.

Classroom Teacher (2018-2022) Southeast Middle School, Hazelwood, MO: I taught ELA to sixth graders, developed instructional strategies, served on the Instructional Leadership team, and led technology-focused in-services for the whole school. Worked collaboratively with the other sixth-grade ELA teachers, developing tests and student learning outcomes for the entire year.

Sixth-grade Classroom Teacher (2014-2018) Dunbar Elementary School, St. Louis, MO: Taught all subjects to sixth graders, designed curriculum, achieved high district math scores, and piloted new Math and ELA curricula.

Lead Insurance Specialist (2000-2014) BJC Home Medical Equipment, St. Louis, MO: I coordinated a staff to get authorization and medical necessity forms for medical equipment and services to be used by patients at home from all private and government insurance companies. Also doing reauthorization as required. I know medical terminology, anatomy, and how to relate to patients and insurance company representatives.

Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society – 2012-2014.

Who’s Who Among College and University Students – 2016. Volunteer Service

I've been on the Teach for America St. Louis Alumni Advisory Board since 2020, co-hosting events, selling the most raffle tickets at the Holiday Party, and securing charitable donations for the Christmas celebration.

I served on Saint Louis University’s School for Professional Studies alumni advisory board from 2016 to 2020. There, I attended several galas and served as a liaison for the school, meeting with potential donors, showing them around campus, and taking them on golf-cart tours. I was also the head of the annual “Make a Difference Day” team. This is a national day when universities gather on a Saturday to volunteer in our community, helping nonprofit organizations with a wide range of tasks and projects they need completed in the fall, usually in October. I have helped create decorations for classroom doors for after-school programs, cleaned up leaves at a cemetery before a special historical gathering, and even planted flowers near the highway for Beatify St. Louis.

I served on Saint Louis University’s BOLD (Billikens of the Last Decade) Advisory Board. I worked with the board to be more inclusive of “Nontraditional” students who are not on campus and take evening, weekend, and online classes. I was instrumental in making Nontraditional students aware of the campus groups they could join and in encouraging them to embrace all that SLU had to offer. I served on this board from 2015 to 2017.
