Allen has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The New Jersey Institute of Technology. He graduated in 1989, and became a licensed architect in 1995 after a three-year apprenticeship and passing a four-day licensing exam. He has over 25 years’ experience working with clients, other architects, general contractors and building code officials. He has utilized AutoCAD software his entire career, and stays knowledgeable of industry updates by taking continuing education classes. Some of Allen’s classes have been on health, safety and welfare topics, while other classes were on design and construction topics. He brings professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail to every project.
Allen was a member of AIA for over 15 years, specifically the Jersey Shore AIA chapter in New Jersey. In 2001 he was nominated for the 2001 Jersey Shore AIA Young Architect of the Year award. His education, work portfolio and participation in the chapter operations as Continuing Education Chairman were all instrumental in winning the award.
In 2006 Allen started a collaboration with a residential and commercial general contractor. This led him to make connections with other contractors in the area; some of these connections were through his own marketing efforts, others were already working with clients that hired him. Some contractors worked with him for several years. At one time he was collaborating with 10 contractors.
Alen has worked as a sole practitioner for many years. This affords him the freedom to work at his own pace. Unfortunately, it also means that he misses out on the association with other professionals in a larger office environment. He misses the opportunity to learn from senior architects and to mentor individuals entering the profession.
