An Optometric Glaucoma Specialist, certified by the Texas Board of Optometry, skilled in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with glaucoma. Prescribes glaucoma medications confidently, provides follow-up and management of patients with this vision threatening disease, knows what tests are appropriate to perform when patients return for follow up care. Co-manages with Ophthalmology in the care of glaucoma patients in prescribing of eyedrops and surgical options.
Comfortable and experienced in the detection and management of patients with diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and retinal pathology. Orders and interprets diagnostic testing including but not limited to OCT (Nerve/Macula), visual fields, gonioscopy, pachymetry Pentacam, retinal photography, topography, gonioscopy, adaptometry and dilation with scleral depression, when necessary. Skilled and confident performing indirect ophthalmoscopy in the detection of retinal diseases. Orders lab tests based on the patient’s systemic conditions.
Understands the numerous etiologies of dry eye as it relates to the environment, the patient’s systemic health, medications and post-surgical causes. Very comfortable and experienced regarding treatment options and management of dry eyes. Communicates effectively with patients and collaborates efficiently with other health professionals within and outside the practice.
Received his Doctor of Optometry, from the University of Houston, Summa Cum Laude. Served the University of Houston, College of Optometry from 2000-2020 as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, and mentored students at his practice in Dallas in the final year of the student’s Optometric education.
Able to manage and treat external eye diseases, minor eye injuries, corneal pathology, corneal foreign body removal. Co-manages and works well with Ophthalmologists of all specialties. When noted conditions are beyond his scope of practice or comfort zone knows when to make a timely referral to Ophthalmology and or other medical specialists.
