Personal Vision: Through teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and research my passion is to open up my students' eyes to the more abstract and less visible forces of society, such as social stratification, stigmatization, the self-fulfilling prophecy, latent functions, the values-fulfillment gap, role conflict, globalization, and bureaucratization, to show how their lives are shaped, and to provide a path toward increasing their freedom to take more control over their lives in order to accomplish their personal goals—and perhaps along the way to contribute to the mitigation of one or more of the world's most pressing social problems.
