Use of hair, bone collagen, and teeth to find evidence of sick foods and scurvy through c3 and c4 in Roman-occupied Ancient Egypt.

Quantitative Methods of Biological Anthropology Spring 2024 Soles of the bones: Analysis of Calcaneus, Talus, and Mental Eminence in Sex Estimation The research investigates the accuracy of using the talus, calcaneus, and glabella (mental eminence) for sex estimation in skeletal remains. It compares these less commonly used markers to more traditional methods and evaluates their effectiveness, highlighting the challenges of incomplete bones and small sample sizes. The study suggests that a combination of skeletal markers is necessary for more reliable sex estimation, particularly in cases with fragmented remains.

Cape Canaveral Mitigation Project High Impact Class Spring 2024 Delving into Cultural Practices of Malabar People Through Examination of Faunal Remains Conducted research on the subsistence practices of the Ais indigenous peoples at the Penny site

(8BR158) in Eastern Florida, analyzing faunal remains, shell tools, and heavy fraction samples to investigate fishing and mollusk collection techniques. Identified key aquatic species and subsistence strategies, contributing to the understanding of Malabar II cultural practices. • Duties: prepare samples for stable isotope analysis. We primarily work with human and animal remains from archaeological contexts from around the world. Samples are manually prepared, chemically treated, and primary products extracted according to lab protocols for collagen and carbonate analysis from osteological tissues. We focus on the analysis of stable isotopes of carbon (δ13C), nitrogen (δ15N), and oxygen (δ18O).
