Correctional Officer

ST. LANDRY PARISH SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT-Opelousas, LA October 2025 to Present

I work in booking and intake. I do a lot of clerical work. I book people into our facility when they come to jail. I release them out of our system when they get transferred or bond out. I pull their property from the filing cabinets if they’re being transferred or bonding out, to go with them. I answer phones. I run criminal histories. I put new inmates paperwork in lineup so they can see the judge. If it’s a weekend, I email the judge the information to try to get new people a bond. I write out bench warrant recall paperwork. I clear all bench warrants from the system if their inmate has an active bench warrant during the booking process. I do a lot of computer work. I communicate with patrol and dispatch regarding offenders. I place detainers on some offenders if they’re have a hold for another agency. I lift detainers if their hold is no longer valid.

Correctional Officer

Raymond Laborde Correctional Center-Cottonport, LA February 2025 to June 2025

I was also a correctional officer at Raymond Laborde Correctional Center. I attended a 6 week long basic correctional academy through the prison. I had to perform general and pat searches of offenders to ensure no contraband was brought into the facility. I had to perform random searches of an offenders property and log everything I found that they couldn’t have. I had to log pertinent information in the officer tablets regarding my job duties. I had to assist with medical emergencies. I had to escort offenders to and from places on the compound. I had to write disciplinary reports on offenders. I conducted security rounds every 30 minutes. I had to pack the offenders property when they went to the cellblock for any disciplinary action. I had to be firm, fair, and consistent in my job duties as a correctional officer. I assisted with pill call and walk security duties. Walk security entails escorting offenders to the infirmary for trips or labs. I had to wake up offenders when they had a trip or lab to go to. I had to supervise offenders at all times. I communicated with officers over the radio through 10 codes. I had to activate my beeper in times of emergency. I had to open and close the sally ports for officers coming in and out for trips. I had to drive around the compound and watch cameras to ensure no offender was escaping. CUMBERLAND COUNTY DETENTION CENTER-Fayetteville, NC December 2024 to January 2025

I was a correctional officer at the Cumberland County Detention Center. It was my job to supervise offenders to make sure they’re doing the right thing. I had to make sure they were fed. I had to break up any fights that occurred. I had to write disciplinary reports on them in the event something occurred such as a fight or disrespect towards an officer. I had to supervise offenders during recreational time. I had to make sure all offenders had the proper hygiene items to conduct personal hygiene. I had close contact with offenders when it came to handcuffing them for court purposes. I had to perform random shakedowns on the offenders and their property. I had to log all shakedowns and what contraband was found. I had to conduct bed counts to make sure all offenders were accounted for. I had to ensure they were getting the proper medical attention when needed. I had to walk with the nurses from cell to cell when they were conducting pill call to ensure the safety of the nurse, offender, and myself. I had to communicate over the radio with other officers so I am fluent in 10 codes and signal codes. I had to watch cameras. Most importantly I had to ensure the safety of myself, fellow officers I worked with, offenders, and the general public.
