To whom this may concern,
My name is Marcela Sauceda. I am 48 years old and I am very excited about this new chapter in my life. I was born in Sinaloa, Mexico. I am the third of five girls. My dad passed away when I was 8 years old. My mom migrated here to the United States leaving my four sisters and me in Mexico. She did this so she could work and save money to eventually bring us with her, in order to give us a better life where we can have food on the table and have a decent place to live. I arrived in the United States when I was13 years old, and went to school in the city of Montebello, however I was not able to complete school due to the language barrier. When I turned 16, I joined a music band because I had always dreamed of becoming a famous singer, to build a successful platform so I could help others, especially children in need.
When I joined my band, I traveled all around the United States and parts of Mexico. I was only able to complete middle school and two years of high school. Unfortunately, I could not continue my studies because at that time education was really hard to do on the road and there was a language barrier. Seven years later, I got married and had kids. I then decided to put my dreams aside and take care of my children by becoming a full time mom. I think that was the best decision that I have ever made. Today, I can say it was worth it! I feel very blessed. However, I feel like it's time to put myself first again. I started taking cosmetology and music courses in my free time as an effort to learn more English.
I am a mother of four beautiful girls, and I want to be a good example for them. I encourage them to study and become the best version of themselves, which I know I am doing a great job at. My oldest daughter is studying to become a doctor and my second daughter is studying to become a dentist. Seeing my daughters become better versions of themselves makes me very proud. I am proud that I was able to guide them into pursuing their dreams and education.
I have been a music instructor for 24 years. I have worked with people of all ages from five year olds to seniors. I also had my own band and performed at special events like weddings and community events. I have also volunteered in an elementary school teaching guitar and vocal music lessons. Recently, I have decided to return to school to improve my English. My goal is to become an official music teacher and an elementary teacher assistant. I have enrolled at Inland Career Education Center and have passed two out of four exams to get my GED. I can see my dreams becoming a reality.
I believe in being persistent and never giving up. Right now, I take care of my daughters and work to pay for my expenses like gas, food, books, clothes, and school. By receiving this scholarship it will be a tremendous help because I do not have to work extra hours and can focus on studying to reach my career and life goals. This scholarship will help me by letting me relax and enjoy studying without having to worry about how I will be able to pay for my education.
Being a singer has given me the opportunity to serve as a role model for women in my community. Throughout my career, I have received numerous awards and have been recognized in various publications, including magazines. I strive to encourage other women to stay active, pursue education, and believe in their potential. I hope to continue working in music, especially with children, while also proving to myself and my community that it is never too late to continue learning and to turn our dreams into reality.
In conclusion, after four babies, my husband, and home duties it has been a long journey to get back on track. However, I am determined in putting myself first once again and achieving my goals. I'm learning, once again, how to set time for myself and get to do the basic things I need like exercise, sleep, eating well, and studying. I have set up goals for my family, friends, and myself. I am pretty sure with God in my heart and my determination I will be able pursue education to my full potential, which will help me with starting my career.
Thank you for considering my application.
