The Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) provides approximately $50 million worth of sophisticated equipment and staff support to CUNY, small businesses and industry researchers. The Photonics Spectroscopy Facility is a Shared-User Facility, offering different lasers, light sources, spectral equipment, measurement equipment, optics, and mechanical hardware to support photonics research.
Created, managed and maintained a Spectroscopy Lab in ASRC for research of metamaterials. Extensive use of Coherent MIRA high power Titanium: Sapphire tunable femtosecond laser, Coherent harmonic generator for MIRA (2nd and 3rd harmonics), Horiba iHR550 infrared spectrometer (200 nm – 30 microns) and J.A.Woollam IR-VASE infrared ellipsometer (spectral range: 1.7 – 30 microns). Developed test benches for photonics measurements.
Worked in cleanroom with semiconductor processing equipment (cutting wafers, wire bonding, etc.). Trained researchers in Nano Fabrication Facility cleanroom. The Nano Fabrication Facility enables the fabrication and characterization of a wide range of structures and houses a comprehensive set of tools that aid researchers in developing novel micro and nanoscale devices. The NanoFab has a 5,000 square feet class 1000 and class 100 cleanroom space.

Designed a high-resolution position detection system for two-dimensional scanners and fiber optics switches. Designed a one-package position detection system consisting of custom designed position sensitive photodiode (PSD) and vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). Based on this developed a resolver (absolute encoder) for stepper and servo motors. Two patents issued, one pending.

Researched technologies that the 9 billion parent company in high-tech can commercialize in the US and organizing production abroad, based on company’s technologies and patents in strong magnets, displays, etc.
Supervised development projects related to e-beam pumped laser TV, flat panel displays and electrochromic light valves for smart windows. Implemented projects focused on development of processes and equipment related to protective coatings and strong magnets.
Managed Synmatix 18-person nanomaterial development team.
Developed nanopowder of pure metals. Developed nanopowder lubricant additives for oil Cu-Ni, Cu-Sn, Cu-Sn-Zn, Nitrides for tools - Si3N4, BN, Carbides for tools SiC, WC. SiC also for optical polishing.
Researched advanced nanoceramics and nanometal materials (increased hardness and plasticity) for medical implants (including dental) and coatings that will insure the compatibility of dental implants and the bones. This was a project with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Synmatix obtained a US patent on manufacturing of an Absorbent C-Fe nanoparticle for transportation of drugs and localization by magnetic field. In C-Fe particle (Fe, surrounded by C) the carbon is filled with medicine against the cancer, and using magnetic field C-Fe is transported to necessary place in the body. As result of localization the damage to the entire body is minimal.

As Subcontractor for a grant, designed from concept to production Continuous Wave Tunable Dye Jet Lasers like Spectra-Physics 375 and Coherent 599. Manufactured prototypes. Designed for Dye Jet Lasers a high-speed stainless-steel pump system combined with a cooling system. Designed the mechanics, optics and the control electronics for this laser system.

Fine tuning Fabry-Perot etalons for tuning of the wavelength and for measuring the difference of the wavelengths of two single mode, single-frequency lasers.
Based on birefringence, 3-plate tilted birefringent filter from crystalline quartz for tuning of the wavelength, calculated for minimal losses and for maximum spectral range of laser generation (Lyot’s filter).
Based on refraction, Fresnel’s parallelogram from special glass to change the polarization to circular and by 90 degrees. Based on birefringence devices from crystalline quartz for fine tuning of the direction of the polarization.
Parametrical lasers on KDP. Calculated KDP crystals for autocorrelator and for 2nd and 3rd harmonics.
Semiconductors Experience
Research in the field of Laser Spectroscopy of silicon, cadmium sulfide, indium phosphide (III-V) and silicon-organic materials. Worked with coatings, cryogenic and high vacuum systems.
Designed electronics for automatic data acquisition to measure the electro-physical properties of indium phosphide (InP) p-n junctions and metal-dielectric-metal and metal-dielectric-semiconductor structures. Particularly measurement of wavelength-current, voltage-current, voltage-capacity, photoluminescence and decay characteristics of semiconductors and silicon-organic materials.
