Emergency Services & Community Leadership

As President and Co-Founder of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corps (BSVAC), he built one of New York State’s busiest ambulance services from the ground up. He served as an EMS Program Coordinator at New York City Technical College and later as a Consultant at Pace University. In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, Pace University’s New York City campus at One Pace Plaza—located only four blocks from the World Trade Center—became a focal point for recovery and resilience efforts.

During this period, he developed innovative programs focused on education, rebuilding, and workforce development initiatives, helping to expand opportunities for students and professionals impacted by the tragedy. Joe’s expertise extended to the entertainment industry, where he worked as a contract medic on major film sets, including Jacob’s Ladder, Godfather III, New Jack City, and The Fisher King. His presence ensured safety during stunt sequences and high-risk scenes.

Following the 1992 riots in LA, Joe was contracted by Actor William Shatner to develop youth programs aimed at gang intervention. He collaborated with the Al Wooden Heritage Center and the Challengers Boys and Girls Club, playing a key role in negotiating a truce between rival gangs—the Crips and Bloods.
