MECHANICAL DESIGN PROJECT – DON’T LOSE YOUR MARBLES
A.Designed a mousetrap vehicle that will carry three marbles across a distance of 127.75 inches, while going up and down a 2.82-inch-high and 18-inch-wide ramp. Made use of a gear mechanism.
B.Executed the project within the duration of the winter semester (Jan. 2026 to Apr. 2026)
C.Collaborated in a team of 5 members
D.Performed stress calculations, gear mechanism calculations, speed and momentum calculations, as well as material selections.
E.Created 3D models and engineering drawings of the individual parts of the vehicle, as well as the assembly. A Bill of Materials was created to keep track of all parts.
F.Wrote reports, summaries, and letters to record all stages of the report, including proposals, brainstorming, challenges, successes, and failures.
G.The outcome was a success. The vehicle carried the marble across the 10 feet distance and went up and down the ramp without any challenge. The downside was that the car was unable to stop at the 10-foot mark.
