Laboratory Assistant (April 2023-April 2025 (contract ended)

• Perform phlebotomy, scheduling, collecting and processing laboratory specimens to be shipped to a reference laboratory for testing. Operate laboratory centrifuges, incubators, and refrigerators/freezers. Assist in maintaining laboratory records. Ensure specimens are properly labeled to send to reference laboratory for testing. Call for specimens pickup and documents on logs.

• Perform preventive maintenance and record keeping for laboratory equipment. Keep daily logs of all temperatures, (e.g., rooms, refrigerators and freezers.). Keep a daily inventory log of needles and other items on the inventory list. Order and monitor supplies for laboratory. Picks up specimens and deliver supplies throughout the facility as needed.

• Prepare the daily supplies needed to draw blood and affix identification labels on specimen containers. Maintain records of tests sent out and laboratory results returned. Processes and files laboratory reports. Participate in the development of local operating procedures. Participate in quality improvement activities.
