Experience in maintaining an accurate criminal caseload of 65-100+ while maintaining state standards and policies. Trained in using VCIN, Crisis Intervention, Coris, VCIN and EPICS certified. Coordinated community resources and secured referrals for probationers based on their need in the areas of substance abuse, mental health, housing and employment. Explored COMPAS results to identify self-determined rehabilitation needs and goals, and developed individual service plans around those criminogenic need areas. Prepared Pre-Sentence Investigations as ordered by the Rockingham/Harrisonburg Circuit Court, provided court testimony, provided court coverage on a weekly basis, and drug screened probationers for illegal substances. Experience in maintaining an accurate criminal caseload of 17+ juvenile probationers (mainly higher level offenders, including sex offenders on probation and parole, while maintaining state standards and policies. Completed both Pre-and Post-Social History Investigations, provided intake and on-call services for law enforcement, trained Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department on the on-call processes and procedures per state standards., developed community case plans based on the Youth Risk Assessment (YASI) needs and goals for each probationer. Collaborated with various community-based agencies in an effort to provide needed resources to probationers in the areas of substance abuse, mental health, education and family counseling. Provided drug screens, testified in court and provided court coverage weekly. Maintained professional working relationships with Clerks of Court, Judges, colleagues and community agencies. Participated in the Family Assessment Planning Team (FAPT), Re-entry Council, Court Best Practices and the Restorative Justice Steering Committee. As Senior Probation Officer, I was afforded the opportunity to promote staff moral and a healthy working environment while promoting positive leadership. I was able to develop the district intern program and supervised all interns while meeting with the university mentor/supervisor routinely. Was fulltime secretary in the Waynesboro office until I returned to college to earn my Bachelor’s Degree from James Madison University.
Prior to the experience listed above, I was also a Legal Secretary and Criminal Paralegal for a law firm in the Waynesboro, VA community. I was responsible for prepping for jury trials, summoning witnesses for testimony, organizing files for evidence and testimony, preparing jury instructions. The Senior Partner in this firm has since passed away (Gordon Poindexter) and the other partner (Robert Patterson) moved to another state. This firm has been taken over and is under another name currently.
