I have been volunteering in my community for 5 years. As a therapy dog handler, I go into the community to different facilities like memory care. Places, special needs, groups, developmentally disabled. Adults outpatient programs and I take my dog and we try and be supportive. To whatever they may be going through. So basically I just go into the community. And build relationships and take my dog so they can get the healing of a pet. This has by far been one of the most rewarding things i've ever done in my life. We went to a memory care facility. And we would visit a lady named Ida. And she was already in late stages of dementia when we were visiting and COVID hit and we didn't go for almost 2 years and when we went back soon as she saw my dog, she yelled out his name and one of the orderlies told me later on that day that most of the time, she. Doesn't even remember her own name so. It proved to me that what I'm doing makes a difference to them. So that was really a neat experience!
