Process Improvement
LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES – Optical Fiber Solutions, Norcross, Georgia 2000-2002
Manufacturing fiber optic tubes.
STA/Process Engineer
Increased dryer fiber optic tube production from 45 percent to 98 percent by balancing air flow in the dryer, saving 7.5 million dollars
Charge of temperature control of dihydroxylation furnaces via computer controls
Involved with chlorine and thionyl chloride chemical applications for optic tube purification
Created and revised procedures for final product inspection, Standardized tube quality through data collection and analysis of acceptable and non-acceptable tubes for final inspection. Saved $1million annually by avoiding scrapped products. Held and released product based on MIL Standard 1074
Eliminated pressure differential with silica line flow by implementing check valves, which prevented line gelation, resulting in $2 million in savings by avoiding downtime and lost production
Worked with various gauges – digit calipers, micrometers, and optical comparators
Implemented SPC control charts for 18 dihydroxylation furnaces to monitor chemical applications
