WORK EXPERIENCE:

It is noted that many companies want RF Engineers as having had experience in ADS, Genesys, Microwave Office, HFSS, CST, and others. The only program I am versed in is Genesys, however, for RF System level use I have written my own programs in Excel for both communications (Spur-Free Dynamic Range) and radar (noise floor to P1dB) systems.

RF Engineer, Actalent, Warrenton VA, December 2024 to May 2025. Contractor to BCubed Engineering. Assisted in HF BLOS system design, design of HF Transmit, Receive and Fading Simulator circuits, tested other systems for compatibility for HF Frequency Block conversion. Selected proper antennas for portable HF use. Tested transmitters for FCC, NTIA & ITU compliance and recommended solutions.

RF Engineer, Spectrum Control Inc,, Frederick MD April 2024 to September 2024. Assisted manufacturing in troubleshooting production units, modified units for easier production, and mentored younger engineers.

RF Engineer, Charon Technologies, Herndon VA October 2019 to April 2024. Wrote extensive paper on EMI Prevention and Abatement. Designed duplexers and filters for analyzing bidirectional communications. Implemented RFI Abatement on interfaces and power systems. Implemented test procedures and EMI resolution on key flagship system. Redesigned power protection system for MIL STD 1275 compliance. Developed test procedures for MIL STD 461 and other standards. Designed multiple duplexers and filters for testing and evaluation 4G systems. Designed 40 GHz downconverter and low pass filter banks for various broadband transmitters. Developed a systematic approach for transmitter filter design for various multi-octave transmitters to conform with both FCC and NTIA regulations.

RF Engineer, Ultra Electronics Ocean Systems, Chantilly VA August 2017 to October 2019. Laboratory Manager, designed test schemes for new Navy radar, cognizant engineer on antenna design, lightning analysis protection, guided management on test equipment plans and purchasing.

Designed high speed FET and PIN diode switches and drivers. Worked on third generation synthesizer testing, analysis and controls. Designed front end changes for 2.5 dB better sensitivity on receive in key radar system.

RF Engineer, System Planning Corporation, Arlington VA April 2001 to March 2007. Developed 200kW peak transmitter for VHF radar tracking of Ariane V Heavy Rocket Stages upon re-entry. Tuned system in field for cohesive transmissions. Developed baseband amplifiers and filters for different radars. Implemented EMI testing on new radar. Advised junior engineers on baseband processing and RF design. Wrote procedures to test radars for EMI/RF Exposure safety compliance.

RF Engineer, YDI, Falls Church VA April 2000 to April 2001. Redesigned PLL synthesizer for dramatically increased low noise and spurious performance for S band to C band block converter for Wireless Internet Point of Presence (WIPOP) transceivers.
