Customs Trade Compliance

Applied Work

• Ensure compliance with all U.S. import regulations, including proper classification, valuation, country of origin, appropriate tariffs and use of special programs

• Use Customs, PGA and industry software to submit applications e.g., ACE, Descartes, TruVis, ITACs, Access

• Review scope of Anti-dumping/Countervailing duties and produce exclusions

• Review application of various tariffs (IEEPA, Section 232, Section 301)

• Resolve compliance issues as they arise, communicate with Customs and Border Protection

• Communicate with various office units and assure record retention Provide Daily Guidance

• Interpret relevant customs regulations and provide guidance to transactions

• Identify U.S. Partner Government Agencies (PGA) requirements to clear customs and to comply with import requirements e.g., FDA, FCC, DOT; Research, interpret and apply complex regulations Provide Procedural Guidance

• Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Customs Compliance

• Familiar with ITAR, EAR and Jurisdiction Classification (Author of “Impact on ITAR and EAR from U.S. National Security Concerns Over China's Access to Sensitive Technologies, 2025 Updates”) Remain Informed, Build Capacity and Train

• Remain current with knowledge of CBP policies, trade laws, trade policies and other government agency requirements (

• Monitor tariff and regulatory changes - provide a weekly Trade News Bulletin circulated to staff and contribute to developing response strategies and mitigation approaches

• Develop and deliver training programs e.g., two-week course on fraud detection, workshops on risk management

• Reengineered ten of South Sudan’s customs procedures
