PROFILE

Jane Stern has the innate ability to identify topics on everyday life that are rarely covered in popular publications. Her creative writing style relies on visualization to bring the reader into the story as part of a shared experience.

• Her scope of genres include regional American food, popular culture, animal behavior, emergency medicine, and trending fashions. Jane has published 42 books with the top six New York houses. Her books have become New York Times bestsellers as well as having strong sales in the British and Japanese markets. Three have been made into motion pictures. The latest is Ambulance Girl, Jane’s memoir about her life as an EMT. It was directed by Kathy Bates who starred as Jane.

• Her best known book is Roadfood, now in its tenth edition. Roadfood was the first book about American Regional Food and where to find it. In addition to being a landmark publication the book has been a popular website, a TV show on WGBH public television, and the basis of many lectures and magazine columns.

Awards and notable collections

Jane has won five James Beard Awards for Best Food Writing, she has been nominated for three others

She was inducted into the Who’s Who of American Food and is the winner of the James Beard Perrier-Jouet lifetime achievement award for food writing.

In 2019 The Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. installed a permanent collection of Jane’s books, writing, memorabilia, awards and other accolades.
