As a field tech i had many responsibilities. The basic idea of what we did was to protect buildings, homes, and all other type of erected structures new, or existing from lighting strikes. We did this mostly on new construction, construction sites. We did some residential as well as private facilities such as Army Bases, and plants. We would install lightning rods on the roof of the structures and then run cable down the building from top, to bottom into the ground where we flash welded 12 foot copper rods that were buried into the ground. This included long hours of standing, handling grinders, torches, flash welding equipment and many other hand tools side in construction sites. We worked at heights up to 300ft in extremely hot conditions and sometimes extremely cold conditions. We also had to meet osha and nfpa requirements at all times. We also had to be osh 30, ladder safety, fall protection certified as well as many site specific certifications.
