Visual Studio 2005 / Visual Basic 6.0 / Excel 2002 Programmer June 2004 – May 2007

Federated Systems Group, Duluth, Georgia

Developed several projects written in Visual Basic 2005 .These include a Sarbanes Oxley management and tracking system with SQL 2005 as the backend. Created an application for our in house allocation system written in Visual Basic 2005 with DB2 as the backend database.

Developed four screen scraping applications developed in Excel utilizing (VBA and VB 6.0). These tools are used primarily for allocation and planning. I was asked to convert the original tools which utilized ADO to read data from a SQL 2000 database. This was replaced by a middleware product developed in house to read a DB2 database from an IBM mainframe environment. I was able to maintain much of the existing code by defining my own record sets and using the middleware product to load data into these record sets and quickly restore functionality to these tools. Since then I have written or modified several VB 6.0 DLL’s to either enhance or replace existing redundant VBA code in the Excel workbooks, allowing for better maintainability.

SDLC was used through out the entire project. I am also providing end user support through out the entire project along with several other programmers.

Worked on a vessel sanitation project (VSP) written entirely in .Net (Visual Basic, ASP.NET, and XML). VSP provides facilities for cruise ship inspectors to track violations of food preparation regulations. I created an offline system which utilizes XML functions to create a file of an inspector’s current inspection record, which can be easily passed to other inspectors to update their database records.

Updated a project which collects data and generates reports for quality control screening for labs which deal with screening of newborns for inborn errors of metabolism and other diseases. The system is written in Visual Basic 6, ASP, and HTML. I am expanding the existing reports, implemented as COM objects, which generate HTML consumed by the ASP pages.

Redesigned and rewrote the Health Information System (HIS), which is a refugee tracking system written as an Access 2002 project. Access was used for the user interface and report generation and MSDE 2000 was used for the database. This system tracks information such as demographics, injuries, mortality and morbidity rates, maternal and reproductive health, and growth monitoring for refugees in Pakistan. It makes substantial use of stored procedures and functions to replace much of the old inline SQL. This project gave me a great deal of experience in efficient database design techniques and stored procedures.
