Synthesis of porous TiO2 beads from PAM polymer prepared by using Emulsion-Templated Polymerization technique for the degradation of water pollutants. Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, LUMS June 2020 – July 2022 Senior Year Project in the research group of Dr. Irshad Hussain. EDUCATION
Porous PAM polymer beads were prepared using emulsion templated polymerization method. PAM beads were used as template to synthesize porous TiO2 beads. Plasmonic Au nanoparticles were loaded in TiO2 beads using different synthesis methods. It was observed that Au/TiO2 composite materials show improved photocatalytic efficiency as compared to TiO2 beads.
Ligand dynamics on the surface of in-lab synthesized CdSe passivated with stearate were studied using mid-IR transient absorption studies. By probing the vibrational modes of the carboxylate groups attached to the surface of CdSe, it was observed that carboxylates interact strongly with holes. This study could open pathways to understanding how ligand-nanocrystal surface chemistry can be controlled to drive charge transfer processes. Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, UV/Visible Spectrophotometer, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC, ICP-OES, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Time-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy (TRIR).
