ENVIRONMENTAL DATA SCIENCE CONSULTANT
Integral Consulting, Inc., Remote 2021 – 2024
• Cleaned and analyzed environmental data
• Built R-Shiny dashboards (golem framework)
• Produced an internal R package with time saving functions such as a QA function that builds a list of QA items in an excel sheets based on in-line code comments
• Automated the production of client-ready excel tables, reports, and visualizations, saving hundreds of hours each year.
DIRECTOR OF DATA SCIENCE
Sorenson Impact Center, Salt Lake City, Utah 2017 – 2021 The Sorenson Impact Center is a “think-and-do” tank that specializes in data-driven approaches to inform policy and solve social problems. Hired as a data scientist in 2017, I became a director in 2018 and have served as project lead on multiple endeavors as well as supporting our data team as the primary data engineer and most advanced technical coder.
• Gained a detailed understanding of criminal justice data, spending several years leading multiple criminal-justice projects for the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, Utah Association of Counties, Utah Indigent Defense Council, and the Utah arm of the Pew Charitable Trusts’ Supervision Task Force.
• Led data engineering and advanced quantitative modeling methods under 3 grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (totaling over $5M).
• Automated the creation of infographics in R, saving graphic designers hundreds of hours.
• Ensured the consistency and ease of my team’s output by creating an internal R package with common coding practices and functions.
• Worked with many non-profits across the country to establish data-gathering procedures, identify KPIs, and evaluate the effects of interventions.
• Successfully collected and merged data from five different emergency and mental health service providers in a town using fuzzy matching to allow a first-ever look at high utilizers across the services.
• Led and coordinated teams of data scientists and students across various projects and integrated members from policy and field building teams.
• Presented results from various projects to both data-literate and lay persons across all projects, with a focus on using visualization methods that are immediately interpretable.
• Collected and modeled homelessness data (HMIS) for the greater Chicago area.
• Performed in-person evaluation of data collection and reporting standards for small hospitals in distant communities across Mongolia as well as the central hospitals.
• Designed and analyzed multiple program evaluations and impact measurements. EDUCATION

ADJUNCT PROFESSOR & POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah 2014 – 2017 I came to Utah for a post-doctoral research position and was quickly drafted into the adjunct teaching staff to instruct multiple classes including an upper-division seminar and a graduate-level quantitative methods course.
Designed experiments and modeled results for human factors in health care to support adherence engineering with the Utah Department of Veterans Affairs. Advised graduate students in experimental design and quantitative analysis. Acted as non-departmental dissertation committee member for dissertation involving novel methods of visualizing uncertainty in grouped univariate data. Taught graduate-level Quantitative Methods and several other courses. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
Curtin University & University of Queensland, Australia 2013 – 2014 I moved to Australia for a one-year postdoctoral research position to continue building experimental evidence for my graduate research focus. Led multiple research projects including experimental design, data collection, and quantitative analysis of cognitive effects of bioenergetic factors. Worked with neuroscientists to design functional imaging protocols for experiments involving glucose usage in the brain during complex cognitive tasks.
