Pfsense Simulated Attack Lab Report for Network Defense and Security
● Installed and configured pfSense as a network firewall on two Kali Linux virtual machines. Implemented firewall rules to block all incoming traffic while allowing only outgoing HTTP and HTTPS traffic by defining a ruleset for the LAN interface. Enabled external SSH access to an internal server by setting up NAT and port forwarding rules with WAN as the interface and TCP as the protocol. Conducted a simulated attack from a second Kali Linux virtual machine using Nmap to scan for open ports, verifying that all traffic was successfully blocked except for HTTP and HTTPS. Networking & IT Infrastructure Summer 2023
● Learned how to correctly use fundamental network terminology, describe standard network models, and apply an effective troubleshooting methodology, identify the network protocols used for core TCP/IP functions and popular applications, and identify virtualization and cloud technologies, and secure them as part of the overall enterprise network.
