I am a motivated and self driven individual who holds a Bachelor's
Degree in Banking and Finance. I graduated from Pentecost University with a second upper honour with a 3.41 GPA in the year 2019. I have been working as an account officer at Raphal Medical Centre, Tema-Ghana. My work involves receiving payments and issuing receipts to patients, cash management, preparing patients discharge bills and recording patients information. I sometimes check patients' vital signs when nurses are pretty much occupied as well as assist the pharmacist to dispense drugs when her department becomes crowded. I do all these without neglecting my responsibilities and duties but as times went on, I found interest in assisting the nurses attend to patients more than sitting at my office. To be honest, working in a health facility plays a vital role in urging me to pursue this program to achieve my future goal, which is to provide care and support to clients and I believe this program will sharpen my knowledge and develop my career progress with an extraordinary potential. Aside that, as an undergraduate student at Pentecost University College, I pursued vigorous activities in the field of human services and development. When I became the Secretary for my school's program association, we organised a charity event where we paid a visit to a rural community in my country. We went along with foodstuffs and few learning materials and I realised we overestimated the place because I was even finding it difficult to believe that a place like that existed but we tried out best and provided what we could to various households and communities and since the children were all in school, we paid them a visit, taught them a lot of things, played with and ate with them. It was a nice and fulfilling experience which helped me discover my passion for serving vulnerable populations and communities at large.
Helping people gives me a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment, therefore pursuing this program will help me achieve a goal of contributing to community services and wherever I will be needed, hence my decision in applying to study Human Services in this reputable Institution will make this dream come true. I have also been in need of someone's help and assistance during my academic journey. There was a time in life where financially I had issues. I sometimes go through the day without food and it was difficult for my parents providing for my siblings and I. Life was not easy for me, it was affecting my social and mental health as well as studies but one day my form teacher approached me and asked if I was facing issues because of the drop in my academic performance, I took this opportunity and voiced out my grievances to her and thankfully help was provided enabling me to have a smooth academic, social and mental stability. My experiences has provided me with knowledge and dedication to help others.
Eastern Illinois University goes beyond attending lectures, they allow for internships and practices which will grant me with opportunities for professional and personal development as well as fuel me with an indepth knowledge and understanding to improve quality of life for individuals, families and communities throughout the lifespan.
I would like to study and enhance my skills to gain more knowledge and information in this modern and dynamic environment and also work in various nations. Studying this program will again improve my socializing skills, learn how to live in a foreign environment, rely on myself and cope with difficulties alone.
I consider this program at Eastern Illinois University to be a challenge and a great change to help progress and develop my career which I am more prepared to make the required sacrifices to crown it.
