RESEARCH\LAB EXPERIENCE
Undergrad Biology Research July-December 2021
Professor Saul Honigberg Laboratory UMKC
- Examined and conducted a study over cell to cell signaling using the chimeric colony assay by measuring the effect of a mutation in one cell on the biological responses in a neighboring cell.
- My project focused on MIG1 which is a transcription factor of the GAL1 gene.
- Administered this research with other undergrads and independently.
- Acquired course credit from this research
UMKC Biological Research SUROP Symposium September 2nd, 2021
- Presented research over Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a model organism used to study conserved processes such as cell-cycle checkpoints. Cell-cycle checkpoints ensure a cell is free of genomic and cellular damage before proceeding to the next phase in the cycle.
- Presented alongside another undergrad research student in a poster format to faculty and students. UMKC Undergrad Research Symposium April 22nd, 2021
- Proposed a unique synthetic biological tool invention
- Designed an insulin producing E. coli strain as an alternative treatment to Type 1 diabetes. UMKC Public Health Research Symposium Fall 2019
- Conducted and presented research to scholars involving the effect of nicotine devices on the health and social behavior of adolescents
- Formulated this presentation with a group of public health students Public Health Urban Research Fall 2019
- Tracked the prevalence of bicycle usage with correlation to impoverished areas of Kansas City metropolitan area
- Gained this data by daily community observation
AWARDS AND HONORS
A-PLUS Program Scholarship Fall 2015
- Achieved a scholarship from fifty hours volunteer tutoring with elementary students
- Maintained a 3.0 GPA to attain the scholarship
VOLUNTEERING
Volunteered with Bridging the Gap: Kansas City Wildlands restoration Fall 2020
- Partnered with Kansas City Wildlands to remove invasive plant species known as the honeysuckle shrub to protect the native Missouri plant species in the rocky point glades of Swope Park
