G2 OPS, Virginia Beach, VA — Staff Cloud Engineer/Architecture Team Lead Full Time: June 2021 – PRESENT
Part Time consulting role(Infrastructure engineer): Oct 2017-May 2021 Lead the cloud architecture team in managing the NAVSEA Cloud brokerage to resolve brokerage and mission owner problems, enhance the SCCA architecture and pursue cloud native technologies.
Worked closely with DOD clients to transition their infrastructure to the cloud using various AWS and Azure services as well as various Internet technologies and third party applications(DNS, PKI, NTP, SMTP, F5 BigIP, Splunk, etc.). Attended client meetings to understand client environments and replicate that environment using cloud technologies. Troubleshoot and resolve network and systems problems on a daily basis.
Developed and built a cloud-based environment to support the development of a cyber security analysis tool. Planned, implemented and managed this system using various aspects of AWS(EC2, VPC, S3, SNS, IAM, Route53) and the DataStax Cassandra NOSQL database System. Developed IaC code to deploy the environment using Terraform/Ansible and DevOps standard Practices. Regent University, Virginia Beach, VA — Senior Systems Engineer June 2002 - May 2021
Managed all aspects of on-prem devOps in a 24/7 operational environment. This included: design, development, and upgrade, of the university's network(s), email system(Exchange, Exchange 365), directory servers(AD, LDAP), Web servers(Apache, Sun and NGINX), Portal(Liferay, Oracle), SPAM filtering system(distributed SOPHOS Puremessage), and Course management(Blackboard) systems. Intimately involved in the integration of these on-prem systems with cloud resources. Developed and managed the university’s Single Sign On capability(SSO). Integrated that capability with multi-factor authentication by DUO. Developed the university’s enterprise-wide password change system. Configured and managed LDAP replication and wrote various backend applications for a variety of disparate systems. Extensive use of Powershell, Python, PERL, Java, Coldfusion, PHP, Oracle, MySQL, PL/SQL. Managed the univerity DNS system using BIND and AWS Route 53. Developed and taught university level courses in Java, Visual BASIC and Database concepts.
