Vice President for Information Technology (CIO)

Responsibilities:
Member of the President’s senior leadership team to provide planning, budgeting, and leadership for all aspects of technology for the institution. Oversee policies and procedures governing technology use for compliance with BSC Board of Trustee policy, federal, state, and local laws. Major Accomplishments:
• Led project teams using Agile software development models to remove impediments in short sprints. Utilizing these management techniques improved performance and quality of work. Also applied these principles outside of software development for helpdesk and infrastructure successfully for continuous improvement and evaluation processes.
• Headed cyber-security team in planning for measures to ensure viability and protection of the network including penetration testing and vulnerability assessment using NIST guidance for GLBA compliance.
• Worked to improve principle of least privilege and move toward zero trust model in both data and device access for the campus using Active Directory and Group Policy management.
• Oversaw project to MFA (multi-factor authentication) in Azure for cyber-insurance compliance.
• Implemented SSO (single sign-on) using SAML2 at no cost to the institution using open-source tools.

• Led team moving institution’s ERP system running an SQL like database called Unidata to the Microsoft Azure cloud while changing the underlying operating system platform from AIX to Windows which included dozens of 3rd party systems that interfaced directly with the ERP in Azure from AWS and other private cloud installations.
• Guided team moving all servers and file storage to Azure for cloud access.
• Strengthened reliability of backup systems by implementation of Azure cloud replication for disaster recovery and business continuity.
• Re-worked network with a complete redesign of TCP/IP and DHCP implementing a V-LAN structure introducing new switching technology and redundant firewalls for high-availability to eliminate single point of failure.
• Moved PBX phone system to VoIP migrating from on-premises to the cloud, converting pots lines to radio frequency for alarms and to cellular technology for elevators.
• Designed and implemented checklist system for incoming and returning students arrival using Apache, PHP, HTML, Java and a backend Unidata database to operate on phone, tablet and computer technologies. Also created a mobile printing app for the campus with the same tools.
