DUTIES And Responsibilities
Responsible for the day to day maintenance, operation, and minor repairs of the ship’s engines and machinery within the engine room, including tasks like lubrication, cleaning, inspections, and assisting engineers with more complex repairs, all while adhering to safety regulations and maintaining proper documentation of equipment condition.
Regularly cleaning and lubricating engine room machinery such as pumps, turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment.
Performing routine inspections of machinery for wear and tear, leaks, and potential malfunctions, recording their condition in logbook.
Carrying out minor repairs and troubleshooting issues with machinery under the guidance of the engine officer.
Standing watch in the engine room, monitoring engine performance, and responding to alarms or emergencies.
Providing support to the Chief Engineer and other engine officers during major repairs and maintenance tasks.
Following safety procedures within the engine room, including wearing appropriate protective gear and reporting any hazard.
Maintaining details logs of engine operations, maintenance activities, and fuel consumption.
Participating in emergency drills and being prepared to assist in emergency situations as per the ship muster list.
