Professional Profile
Assertive, results-driven professional with extensive hands-on experience with new product planning, identifying, developing and managing through market research, trusted industry connections, international sourcing, interfacing with key resources through domestic and international trade shows, and Asian manufacturers. Extensive background also includes areas of expertise in vendor relationships, new product strategy and development functions, P&L responsibility, budget preparation, and team facilitation/motivation.
Leadership and Management
I strongly believe in teaching and mentoring associates working with, and for me. It gives me great pride to be able to delegate projects to associates and have the confidence that they will be completed on time, rather than micro managing. I always encourage people to ask me questions when they are unsure; as I will if I don’t have the answer. The sign of a good manager is not how great he/she is but how great the people working for them are and always giving them the credit for their accomplishments; in addition to constructive critiquing in private when needed.
Created and led a Product Development/Management Division introducing wireless input devices, multimedia, connectivity, power protection and networking categories with a staff of 11, including graphic designers, support and an international office with projected annual sales over $100M.
Participated and contributed in meetings regarding licensed product contract negotiations, and defined which products would fit into the different licensing projects.
Held regular meetings with internal sales and manufacturer’s representatives for market trends, product updates and account recommendations.
Worked with the sales team to develop pricing strategies, promotional programs, and fulfillment methods to maximize sales. Sales increased from $22M to $54M in less than 4 years with projected sales over $100M. Promotional programs were tailored for each retailer based on their margin requirements as well as developing non-conflicting assortments for the big retailers.
Held regular meetings with customer and technical support to make sure they were always up to date on technology, products and possible issues.
Sourced Asian manufacturers and negotiated all product-related (tooling, sensors, finishes, etc.) costs, including those for materials and packaging.
Developed strong relationships with OEM and ODM Asian factories; such as, Powertech, Chicony, Primax and Good Way; based on honesty and trust.
Provided strong leadership and training for a team of 5 product managers, 2 product support people, 2 graphic designers for developing packaging and our Asian operations office in Taipei.
Credited as a key contributor to the development of Licensed OEM/ODM IBM, Compaq, HP keyboards, mice and other computer related accessories, Micro Innovations branded OEM computer related accessories and private label products and programs for distribution to mail order companies (Systemax, Tiger Direct) consumer electronics companies (Best Buy, PC Richards) office super stores (Staples, CompUSA, Office Max), and mass merchant stores (Wal-Mart).

Introduced in 2003, the first mobile RF optical mouse, very small size with an on/off switch to conserve battery life.

Sales and Marketing
Developed new packaging concepts with openings so the consumer can see and touch the product, using icons and simple charts depicting functionality and compatibilities with less text to crowd the box making the packaging easier for the consumer to understand when glanced at or picked up and read. Packaging size was reduced to increase quantities on the shelf. This resulted in new products being added and sales being increased.
Created and registered trademarks for specific products.
Traveled with sales to help introduce and demonstrate for new product launches, and when necessary field technical questions. When a new technology was introduced, such as Power line networking, I would demonstrate how to connect devices or explaining the difference between laser and optical sensors in mice or the difference in wireless devices that can be connected to computers or mobile phones. These are just a few examples of either demonstrations to help the buyer understand why a new product would be important or how much easier it will work than its predecessor; such as 27 MHz to 2.4 GHz for connection issues.
