Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in an internship or remote job opportunity within your organization. I have been incarcerated for the past 23 years, and throughout this time, I have dedicated myself to personal growth, academic achievement, and preparing for a successful future. After earning my GED in 2005, I have worked relentlessly to build a better life for myself. Today, I am a full-time student at the University of Maine at Augusta, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and pursuing a major in Computer Science or Data Science. I have invested countless hours in rehabilitative programs, developed a strong work ethic, and earned certificates in substance abuse, safety training, violence prevention, and personal growth. With my commitment to change, I have earned the privilege to work remotely, and I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge in a professional setting. I am confident that the discipline and dedication I’ve shown over the years will be assets to any organization that believes in second chances. I have a laptop with internet access 24 hours a day, and I am available to work anytime—7 days a week, day or night. The only limitation is that, per Maine State Prison policy, my employer would need to purchase any additional equipment needed beyond the laptop. I don’t have a phone; however, we can add devices to my laptop for inbound calls or whatever is needed for the job. I can Zoom, email or live chat. I’m prepared to work very hard and become a productive member of the professional community. My previous experience includes customer service and problem-solving in various roles, such as my time as a Carpet/Fire & Flood Technician at Stanley Steemer. Additionally, I have a background in training service dogs for America’s Vet Dogs, this is a program here at The Maine State Prison, which has instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to give back to the community.

I am excited for the opportunity to apply my skills in a real-world setting. I’m eager to embark on my first professional role since I was 21, and I’m willing to undergo any additional training necessary to succeed. I am hoping to find an organization that values hard work, loyalty, and second chances, and I believe I can contribute to your team in meaningful ways. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how I can contribute to your organization. I am confident that, given the opportunity, I will work harder than anyone to prove that I can excel in this new chapter of my life. I have a 25-Year-old daughter. I can’t wait for the opportunity to support her. I haven’t seen her since she was 2 years old. I am truly blessed with this opportunity. Thank You for your consideration. Sincerely, Jeffrey R. Gorman
