ACHIEVEMENTS
HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING
● Achieved professor or associate professor levels at three different universities, teaching subjects in physics, physiology, computer science, mathematical modeling, biomedical engineering, and management information systems.
● Held academic administrative positions as department chair, dean, and academic vice president (provost).
● Developed a week-long training workshop on modeling and simulation and presented it at 30+ university sites in the US and Australia.
MODELING AND SIMULATION
● Developed and published several mathematical models for cell transport mechanisms and heart cell and tissue electrical activity. Assisted others in developing other types of models, such as compartmental models used in studying the distribution of poisons in a body.
● Principal investigator of a national research resource (NIH funded) for biomedical simulation. The group supported 80+ simulation projects in the US with assistance in model development, software, and computing services.
SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, DISTRIBUTION, AND SUPPORT
● The principal author of a complete simulation package, including model description language, solution of model equations, model analysis, and fitting of the model to datasets. Wrote a training and user manual for the package, distributed the software to several hundred sites worldwide, and supported the users.
● The principal author of a patented software architecture for rapid construction of Web pages containing simulation and animated graphic display of simulation results. COMMUNICATION AND MANAGEMENT
● Published 60+ papers in scientific and technical journals, 5 chapters in technical monographs, and 1 science book for general audiences.
● Gave 90+ presentations at scientific and professional meetings, including 28 invited presentations.
● Awarded two patents in instrumentation and Web technology.
● Raised over $10 million in grant funding for simulation research and applications.
