Lectures nursing curriculum specializing in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing incorporating how effective therapeutic communication is essential in all areas to nursing especially in establishing a nurse patient relationship. Educates nursing students at fundamental level on the basic nursing skills on campus at the skills lab and at personal care homes and long-term care facilities.
Supervises nursing students at upper-level specialty clinical rotations including Community Nursing at various clinical community opportunities; including home health and hospice. Instructs students during the Pediatric clinical rotation at several clinical sites to facilitate educational growth about the developmental stages of children and the importance of including parents or guardians in the child’s
treatment care plan. Educates nursing students during this rotation of the value of establishing a rapport with not only the child but the parent or guardian as well, in addition to the clinical skills appropriate for caring for the patients in a pediatric department.
Supervises students for their Internship Nursing Course at several different clinical sites at UPMC Presby, UPMC Altoona, Excela Westmoreland, West Penn and Indiana Regional Medical Center.
